This is a good idea, but is it possible?

Which companies have been successful at decoupling the vision of the founder from the rest of the company?

And by "successful" I don't just mean plodding along making money. Sure you can milk ideas for years with the right executive staff and a great product idea.

I mean companies that continue to innovate, continue to be at the top of their industry.

Of course you can come up with some, but for every one I can think of 3 that aren't.

As a startup, I say focus on your own success and don't worry about whether someone else can sustain your $1b idea later on. All companies should have such problems....

I don't know if its possible. The owner will almost always be the generator and engine in his own Company. However I would say that every company reflects the values of the owner all the way.

You maybe right and you are certainly right that the most important thing is to focus on your own succes.

Well it's certainly worked at places like Zappos. They have a great culture that everyone admires, and although it does flow from CEO Tony Hsieh it seems likely that it would continue if it got hit by a bus.

So there is hope!
